    Greeny Purvis Petyarre, Neffe der berühmten Künstlerin Emily Kame Kngwarreye, wurde um 1930 geboren und wuchs zu einem hochrangigen Stammesältesten seines Landes Alhalkere in der Region Utopia in Zentralaustralien auf.

    Als Maler galt er als spiritueller und innovativer Künstler. Seine bekanntesten und vorherrschenden Werke waren diejenigen, die das Wurzelsystem der Yamswurzel unter der Erde darstellten. Diese Gemälde bestehen aus stark farblich aufgeladenen Linien, die langsam und behutsam eingesetzt werden und Variationen in jeder einzelnen Linie erzeugen. Die von Greeny verwendeten Farben repräsentierten normalerweise verschiedene Stadien in der Entwicklung des Yamswurzelsamens von der Keimung bis zur Reife.

    Weiße Punkte, die mit dem flachen Ende von Bambus-Satay-Stäbchen angebracht wurden, umrahmten jede Linie und stellten den immer bedeutsamen Yamswurzelsamen Kame dar.

    Diese Gemälde waren bei Sammlern und Galerien auf der ganzen Welt sehr begehrt.

    Greeny verstarb am 3. Mai 2010 und hinterließ seine Frau Kathleen Purvis, die Töchter Judy, Maureen, Jedda und Jennifer, seine Enkelin Katrina Greeny und viele weitere Verwandte.
