Antarrengeny by Kathleen Purvis Kemarre

30cm x 30cm

Ethically sourced and 100% original

This painting celebrates Kathleen's country, Antarrengeny, just north of Utopia in Central Australia. The U shapes represent women's body paint designs for ceremony. Ceremonial colours for Antarrengeny country are yellow ochre and red ochre. This body paint is applied to their chest, breasts, arms and thighs. Traditionally, powders were ground from ochre, mixed with a binder and applied with atyepale; a flat stick with soft padding. Women perform ceremonies to demonstrate respect for their country and the total well-being and health of their people.
