“The Dreamtime is the mythological representation of what Aboriginal people carry in their minds. The source of life! This knowledge has not just been planted in their minds, it is taught and structured through initiation and ceremony.” - A.P. Elkin, Professor of Anthropology, 1920’s-1930’s

Aremela Rockhole is a sacred site for Gary and his people. In this painting the large concentric circles in the centre represent Aremela Rockhole and the small yellow circles represent smaller rock holes nearby. Parallel lines stemming from the concentric circles represent travelling lines of the Ilkawerne people to and from Aremela Rockhole.
Black is a significant colour in this painting. It denotes the presence of the Bush Plum Dreaming. Black dots depict bush plums that have fallen to the ground. There is a sacred Dreamtime story for this small black berry, called Ahakeye.
Colours: red oxide, yellow oxide, black and white on grey background.
