Awelye ist ein Alyawarr- und Anmatyerre-Wort für Frauenzeremonie. Diese Zeremonien werden durchgeführt, um den Respekt vor dem Land, den Vorfahren und der Traumzeit zu demonstrieren und das Wohlergehen und Glück innerhalb der Gemeinschaft zu gewährleisten. Das Muster der Körperbemalungen in diesem Gemälde ist das gleiche wie bei Katies Landsfrauen während der Zeremonie; Bogenlinien über die Brust und gerade Linien nach unten und über die Brüste. Seine Samen waren vor Jahren eine wichtige und nahrhafte Nahrungsquelle. Katies Leute sammelten diese Samen, verbrannten sie, um kleine Härchen zu entfernen, und mahlten sie zu einer Paste für die Herstellung von Damper (Brot), was heute nicht mehr üblich ist.
