Bush Plum Dreaming by Josie Petrick Kemarre (SOLD)

Clusters of warm coloured dots interspersed with blue dots represent the different ripening stages of the Bush Plum (or Mistletoe). Painted by Josie Petrick, one of Australia's top 100 aboriginal artists, with the flat end of bamboo satay sticks.

Josepha's painting represents the Bush Plum Dreaming. Though Josepha calls these little berries ‘bush plum’ in English, it is called Angkwerrpme in Josepha’s language, also known as the Bush Mistletoe.

There are many different types of angkwerrpme in Central Australia, where all but one or two produce edible berries. Josepha paints one that has sweet edible berries that can be found in shades of yellow, red, orange and purple (or black) in their different stages of maturity. Josepha says they can be found growing on the Witchetty Bush (Acacia kempeana). Dot work symbolises the angkwerrpme and the colours Josepha uses signify these various ripening stages.
