Yam Flower by Tenallie Mills (SOLD)

Designs in this painting depict the flower of the anaty (desert yam) and dots represent the yam seeds. 

Desert yams are tubers or swollen roots of the Ipomoea costata, a fast-growing creeper with large purplish-pink trumpet flowers. They are still a staple food for Aboriginal people in Utopia and can be harvested any time of year, preferably after a big rain.

In the corners of this painting, U shaped symbols represent women who are collecting the yams.
