This painting depicts leaves and flowers of the pencil yam.
Pencil yams are small tubers growing beneath the surface of a native trailing herb. These are still harvested today.
Above ground, the leaves of this herb will cover large areas of the ground after significant rain and produce small yellow flowers. The leaves are bright green and bring the bush to life.
Elizabeth's painting captures the untamed movement as the flowering herb emerges from the ground and sweeps across the desert floor.
