Soakage by Lena Pwerle| 90cm x 90cm
Available online
Soft Ash Pink, Southern Ocean Blue and Australian Sienna come together to create a mesmeric and soothing piece.
Charcoal Lindsay | 45cm x 45cm
This small black, white and red ochre artwork by Utopia elder Lindsay Bird depicts the Bush Plum Dreaming.
Black or charcoal is an important colour associated with the Bush Plum Dreaming. Often it distinguishes the bush plum from other trees or berries in symbolism due to it's inherent colour.
Pink Leaves | 45cm x 45cm
This small vibrant painting by Gloria Petyarre, one of Australia's leading female artists, depicts leaves.
Large, bold gestural and highly colour-charged daubs are superimposed over one another while the paint is still wet, creating a sense of leaves scattered upon each other.
Spring Soakage | 120cm x 120cm
This colourful artwork by Utopia elder Lena Pwerle depicts soakages (waterholes) that are spread across her country in Central Australia.
Lena says that these soakages are now all dried and used up but had plenty of water in them long ago which provided her people with a much needed water supply. With their intimate knowledge of the land, Lena’s people knew how and where to find them.
Monchrome Delvine | 180cm x 60cm
Available online
Intricate white dots systematically map out artist Delvine Petyarre's country. There are dry river beds, yam root systems beneath the ground and travelling tracks of her people.
Delvine dabs a bamboo satay stick into a pot of paint and uses this to create several to a dozen dots in one go. This process creates areas of thicker consistency where dots appear larger, and others that are smaller and darker where the dots trail off. The resulting effect is a twinkling, dotted, three dimensional looking work of art.
Elsie | 90cm x 30cm
The combination of tradition and vibrant colours, lines and dots, by Elsie Dixon made this piece an obvious choice to feature on Desert Doll's opening range.
The linear patterns represent Women's Ceremony which is about women coming together for harmony, teaching and celebration. The process of painting each other, of singing, dancing and celebrating together is important.
Summer Leaves | 45cm x 45cm
Available online
This small Leaves painting by Gloria Petyarre is vibrant, fresh and seaside-esque making it a perfect addition to Desert Doll's first range.
