Die diagonale Linie aus gepunkteten Bögen in diesem Gemälde ist ein Symbol für die Bleistift-Yamswurzel; kleine Knollen, die unter der Oberfläche eines einheimischen, hängenden Krauts wachsen. Diese werden noch heute von Elizabeth und ihren Leuten geerntet.
Auf beiden Seiten fängt Elizabeth mit den kleinen, schnellen Bewegungen einer Applikatorflasche die ungezähmte Bewegung der Blätter und gelben Blüten ein, wenn das Kraut nach starkem Regen aus dem Boden auftaucht, über den Wüstenboden fegt und den Busch zum Leben erweckt.
Elizabeth hat hier Grün und Gelb verwendet, um Authentizität in den Farben zu vermitteln.
