    Maureen stammt aus einer großen Künstlerfamilie, in der sie die Tochter der Künstlerin Elsie Dixon Penangke und des leitenden Ankerrapw-Mannes Walter Dixon Pwerle ist. Sie hat vier Schwestern; Thelma Dixon , Elizabeth Dixon , Dianne und Jilly und ein Bruder, Henry Dixon.

    Maureen hat sowohl eine Aborigine- als auch eine westliche Ausbildung genossen und als Hilfslehrerin an der Mulga Bore School in Utopia gearbeitet.

    Maureens künstlerischer Stil wird häufiger von den Designs ihrer Awelye beeinflusst – Frauenzeremonie und Körperbemalung , für die Geschichten aus dem Land ihres Vaters, Ankerrapw.
