    Loretta Jones gehört zu einer starken Künstlerfamilie. Sie wuchs in Arawerr (Soapy Bore) in der Utopia-Region auf. Ihre Mutter, Gypsy Jones , war in den 1980er Jahren an der Gründung der Utopia Art-Bewegung beteiligt und Loretta erlangte durch sie und andere Damen in ihrer Gemeinde Wissen über die Geschichten, die sie malt.

    Loretta hat fünf Schwestern und vier Brüder; Jilly, Sandra, Agnes, Rhonda, Lilly, Anthony, Robert, Denny und Kevin. Sie hat einen Sohn, Justin, und lebt weiterhin in Utopia und pflegt eine traditionelle Lebensweise im Busch.
