Atham-areny kommt von den Anmatyerre-Wörtern atham (kein Feuer) und areny (zugehörig). Es sind kleine und farblose Geister oder Geschöpfe des Landes, die im Boden oder an Orten leben, wo das Feuer nicht hingehört. Es ist bekannt, dass sie aus ihren Häusern kommen und Babys stehlen und verstecken oder Unfug treiben. Es ist wichtig, dass die Leute am Feuer bleiben.
