About the Artists
Our vibrant and dynamic artists are from the Utopia region; a large remote area of Central Australia which, until recently, had no government funded art centre. As a result of their pioneering efforts, they have one of the strongest and richest art histories.

Designs in this painting represent ntyemeny, known as the ruby saltbush (Enchylaena tomentosa). A soft greyish shrub with small flowers and bright red or yellow berries, the ntyemeny is found in abundance around Alice Springs and throughout Central Australia in every habitat. Thelma and her people eat the ripe ntyemeny berries raw or reconstitute the dried berries in water.
There is a Dreamtime story that belongs to the ntyemeny for Thelma and the people of Ankerrapw country. Ceremonies are performed to demonstrate respect for this story and maintain the existence of the ntyemeny plant.
