  • About the Artists

Our vibrant and dynamic artists are from the Utopia region; a large remote area of Central Australia which, until recently, had no government funded art centre. As a result of their pioneering efforts, they have one of the strongest and richest art histories.

    Subjects and Stories

The Dreamtime is the mythological representation of what Aboriginal people carry in their minds. The source of life! This knowledge has not just been planted in their minds, it is taught and structured through initiation and ceremony.”- Professor A.P. Elkin, Professor of Anthology, 1920’s-1930’s.

Explore different subjects found in Utopia Aboriginal art and compare the way they are represented in different artists' work. Some are commonly painted and other's rare, but each of them connect with the country and culture in a spiritual way whether it be through a Dreamtime story, as an important food source of the past, or a ritual or ceremony.

We encourage exploration! Feel free to ask us any questions you may have and if there are any subjects you want to know more about. There are many more subjects than what is listed here and we endeavour to keep adding more.
