  • About the Artists

Our vibrant and dynamic artists are from the Utopia region; a large remote area of Central Australia which, until recently, had no government funded art centre. As a result of their pioneering efforts, they have one of the strongest and richest art histories.

  • Alhalkere Country by Bessie Purvis Petyarre

    45cm x 45cm

Bessie paints Alhalkere country, situated in the heart of Utopia in remote Central Australia.

    "This one; country now".

Lines are symbolic of the pencil yam root system found beneath the ground. The atnwelarr and arlatyeye.

Key colours used by Bessie in this piece are Matisse's Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Red, Yellow Oxide, Raw Sienna and Titanium White.
