  • About the Artists

Our vibrant and dynamic artists are from the Utopia region; a large remote area of Central Australia which, until recently, had no government funded art centre. As a result of their pioneering efforts, they have one of the strongest and richest art histories.

Bush Medicine by Patsy Long Kemarre (SOLD)

    30cm x 30cm

There are many sacred Dreamtime stories that belong to Patsy’s country, Antarrengeny of which play a significant part in her ceremonies and culture.  One of her main Dreamings is the story of Bush Medicine. There are different types of bush medicine in the Central Desert. One is used as an ointment where the star shaped leaves, along with the seeds of the plant are crushed, mixed with animal fats and applied topically on sores. Another has medicinal properties in its roots that can be dug up and drunk straight from the root to cure sore throats.
