  • About the Artists

Our vibrant and dynamic artists are from the Utopia region; a large remote area of Central Australia which, until recently, had no government funded art centre. As a result of their pioneering efforts, they have one of the strongest and richest art histories.

  • New Dreamliner 'Emily'

    April 12, 2018 1 min read

In case you missed it, QANTAS' new Dreamliner, named 'Emily', made international headlines last month when it made its inaugural flight from London to Perth non-stop in 17 hours.
The plane is named after Emily Kame Kngwarreye of Utopia and its livery is based on her 1991 artwork 'Yam Dreaming'. There are close to 5000 dots on the aircraft.

    Special visit to Central Australia

The Dreamliner visited Alice Springs earlier in the month, flying non-stop from Boeing's base in Seattle for an official launch before the inaugural flight. Many of Emily's family travelled over 200km's from Utopia to attend.

Their sentiments emulated great pride with many watching on with tears in their eyes as the impressive plane taxied along the runway just after dawn on 2 March 2018.

June Bird Ngale performed ceremony along with another Anmatyerre woman.

You can see pictures and audio of the event at CAAMA Radio.
