Alan und seine Familie haben eine Leidenschaft für Australian Rules Football und kommen gerne zusammen, um vor dem Fernseher zu schauen. Als Alan jünger war, spielte er auch Bush-Football, bei dem Teams aus verschiedenen Gemeinden nach AFL-Teams benannt wurden und sich an Sportwochenenden trafen, um gegeneinander anzutreten. Menschen legen Tausende von Kilometern zurück, um zu spielen und/oder zuzuschauen.
