Bush Medicine Leaf by Abie Loy Kemarre (SOLD)

Abie paints a type of bush medicine called antywerleny (Acacia tenuissima). The leaves of antywerleny are crushed and mixed with animal fat for use as a medicinal ointment, or soaked in water to make a medicinal wash. Abie says this particular bush medicine is still made and used by the people of her country today.

Abie is a talented colourist who began painting in 1994 under the guidance of her grandmother Kathleen Petyarre who was an award-winning Utopia artist. Her grandmother imparted the methodology for creating depth-of-field within her dotwork and taught her the skill and patience needed to develop her work.
