Joy was part of the original group of Utopia women to work with batik. Her work in this is represented in the ‘Utopia – A Picture Story’ the Robert Holmes á Court Collection and Joy also traveled to Adelaide, Indonesia, Paris, Brisbane, Darwin and Sydney as part of various exhibitions.
In 1999, Joy began painting on canvas. Her main subject is the Pencil Yam Story belonging to Alhalkere country.
